Your first session will be the intake session where we’ll discuss your concerns, goals, and what brought you to therapy. It’s an opportunity for us to get to know each other and determine how I can best support you. While it can feel nerve-wracking to think of what to say in your first therapy appointment, rest assured, I have a standard set of questions to inquire about your life and your therapy needs.
Most clients start with weekly or biweekly sessions (twice a month). I encourage consistency in attending therapy, particularly in the beginning, to ensure clients regularly practice their therapy skills in their daily lives. Over time, we may adjust the frequency based on your progress and needs.
The length of therapy varies depending on your therapy needs and goals. While some people find short-term therapy (10-12 sessions) helpful, others prefer ongoing support over a longer period, typically those who have spent years struggling with mental illness. We will work together to find a pace that suits you.
I use an integrative approach tailored to your needs, drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Exposure Therapy, and Pain and Trauma Reprocessing Therapy. Our work will be collaborative, and I’ll ensure you feel comfortable with the methods we use.
No, as a psychologist, I do not prescribe medication. However, I can collaborate with your doctor or psychiatrist if medication is something you’re considering or are currently taking.
A strong therapeutic relationship is key to successful therapy. If you don’t feel we’re the right fit, I completely understand and can refer you to another therapist who may better suit your needs.
My standard rate is set by the current Psychologists' Association of Alberta (PAA ) "Recommended Fee Schedule", which sets a 50-minute therapy session at $235 (10 minutes at the end of every hour is reserved for completing the clinical notes and a file review).
Yes, I offer a limited number of sliding-scale spots for those experiencing financial hardship. Feel free to inquire about availability, rates and payment options.
For private therapy, I provide receipts for insurance reimbursement if your plan covers psychotherapy. I recommend checking with your provider to see if they cover registered provisional psychologists in Alberta.
In cases involving motor vehicle accidents, I collaborate with other clinics that provide holistic comprehensive treatment. Alongside these clinics, we work directly with insurance providers for treatment payment.
I accept e-transfers, credit cards, and direct billing through certain insurance providers.
